Abstract:

Background: Considering the importance of family resilience and the broader range of applications that focus on the resilience of families, in the current study, the introduction of resilience structure of the family has been identified as an essential research demand. Therefore, consideration of the psychometric properties of the most widely used tools in this area, including family resilience, is very important. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of Walsh Family Restitution Questionnaire (WFRQ) with written permission of Professor Froma Walsh, at the University of Chicago, USA. Methods: 350 families from a total of 540 families were selected from a military center in 2017 by simple random sampling and filled Walsh family resiliency questionnaire, Nasseri and Sohrabi spiritual intelligence questionnaire, Barton communication skills, Scheier optimism, Abedi's creativity, and problem solving ability questionnaire were also used in the study. Structural validity was studied using factor analysis by exploratory and confirmatory methods and convergent validity studied using the correlation coefficients of Walsh family resiliency questionnaire with the aforementioned questionnaires. The reliability of the questionnaire was evaluated using Cronbach's alpha and dualization methods. Results: Based on the findings of the factor analysis, the three-factor model of the Walsh family resiliency questionnaire shows a good fit with experimental data, Therefore, Walsh family resiliency questionnaire with three factors of family belief system, family patterns, and communication processes can measure the quality of resilience of Iranian families. Also, the convergent veracity evidence of this questionnaire was confirmed by related scales. The reliability of Walsh Resistance Questionnaire was confirmed by two reliability indices, Cronbach's Alpha coefficient and Ballad coefficient. Conclusion: Based on the evidence of this study, Walsh family resilience questionnaire is a suitable instrument with good psychometric evidence to measure family resilience in Iranian society.
